Dear friends,
I hope you’re having a blessed start to the Advent and Christmas season. During this time of year, my house is always buzzing with activity—making cookies for neighbors, gift shopping, family visits, decorating, and all the other usual holiday prep.
I often find it difficult to maintain the spirit of Advent in my heart: a hopeful anticipation for the arrival of Christ. There are so many distractions. So many things to do.
Using the Behold Advent Collection this year has given me a consistent invitation to pause all the activity, and to recreate that first silent night both in my heart and in my home.
We give gifts in order to imitate the generosity of Christ. We decorate in order to give visible signs of our love and devotion to him. We feast in order to celebrate his arrival in the world. This year, let us also welcome him by stopping, resting, meeting him in the pregnant pause in which he entered the world. May we use this silence as an invitation for him to dwell with us forever.
Merry Christmas,
Rebecca and Ope
