Good morning,
In today’s meditation in the Behold app (download here), we are meditating on 1 John 1:5-9:
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
For me, this week, I find this passage an encouraging reminder that purification from ongoing sin requires cooperation with God. We must walk in the light, where he is, in order to have fellowship with Him. We must confess to him our sins.
Habits of sin can be pernicious, unknown to us and hard to recognize or break. But all God asks of us is a little effort, to will ourselves to follow him into the light, where he envelops us with his radiance and forgiveness. Thank God.
I’d find it so edifying to know your reflections on this passage as well. Comment or reply and let us know how this scripture strikes you today.
In Christ,
Rebecca and Ope
